After 7 years in this space, one thing is clear - patient engagement is a journey, not a destination.

Here’s my journey 👇

2017: convincing people to listen to the patient
2018: re-thinking consent flows under GDPR
2019: positioning patients as experts, not just data sources
2020: adapting engagement during COVID lockdowns*
2021: mastering remote and hybrid collaboration
2022: empowering patient experts to lead projects
2023: re-inventing everything to address digital health

*Immunocompromised patients were early to warn about the risk of a new virus spreading globally. This happened even before lockdowns.

Patient engagement doesn’t get easier the longer you do it.

The only constant is keeping the patient at the center, while navigating new technologies and approaches.

If you’re still doing patient engagement the same way as 3 years ago, something has gone wrong.

The key is to keep pushing boundaries, to find new and better ways to include patients. Move beyond the status quo.
